Interested in getting LASIK?

LASIK eye surgery can be a good alternative for people who don’t want to rely on eyeglasses or contact lenses for clear vision. However, refractive eye surgery is not for everyone.

At Walter Eye Clinic in Tinley Park, our doctors can help you determine if LASIK eye surgery is the right option for you. We also provide both pre- and post-operative eye surgery care to support you through the preparation and recovery process. If you have dry eye disease, our doctors can also guide you through dry eye treatment before laser eye correction, as this will help avoid complications from surgery.

What are Refractive Eye Surgeries?

Refractive eye surgeries can include a variety of different procedures, but LASIK surgery is the most widely known. It is an option often selected by those wanting to reduce or eliminate the need for contact lenses or eyeglasses.

LASIK surgery is a minimally invasive outpatient surgery. The surgery is performed using a computer-controlled laser and a small blade to reshape the cornea. This quick procedure typically involves minor side effects and minimal discomfort for the patient. LASIK eye surgery is most often used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Refractive eye surgery is not the only laser eye correction available. Other options include keratectomy (PRK), automated lamellar keratoplasty (ALK), laser thermal keratoplasty (LTK), and more. At Walter Eye Clinic, we’re happy to discuss the various options with you in a refractive eye surgery consultation and help you determine which procedure may be the best choice for your individual needs.

Is Laser Eye Correction the Best Choice for You?

A comprehensive eye exam at our eye care center is the first step to determine if LASIK or another vision correction procedure is right for you.

When scheduling your appointment, please mention your interest in laser eye surgery. Our staff will be sure to include a LASIK consultation at your exam.

Your comprehensive eye exam will include a thorough assessment of your vision and overall eye health to find out if vision correction surgery is a good fit for you. To determine your candidacy, we will evaluate your current prescription as well as other factors such as any presence of eye disease and the thickness and shape of your cornea.

Our doctors will refer you to an experienced local ophthalmologist if you are found to be a good candidate for LASIK surgery. Our doctors will also attend to your pre-op eye surgery care, offering you instructions on what to do (and what not to do) before your surgery and guidance on how to improve your recovery.

What Happens After LASIK Surgery?

Your body will need time to heal and recover after LASIK surgery. We offer post-operative care for LASIK and refractive eye surgery at our Tinley Park eye care center. Our post-operative care helps to monitor your recovery and address any issues that may arise in the days after surgery. We will observe any side effects and offer instructions on what to do and what to avoid doing to ensure a thorough recovery.

Contact our office if you are interested in LASIK eye surgery. Our staff is happy to help you determine if it may be the right option for you.
